Who we are
The Author Publishing is a team of writers, editors, designers and publishing specialists who work with independent authors. Some of our clients have a story they have carried for years and have never written a word of it down. Others arrive with a polished manuscript and a clear plan. Our job is the same in both cases: give the book the professional treatment it would receive at a traditional publishing house, while the author stays in charge.
About The Author Publishing in one sentence: we do the specialist work, and you keep the book. Your copyright, your ISBNs, your retailer accounts and your royalties all remain yours, before, during and after your project with us.
Why we started
Too many authors have told us the same story. They paid a company to publish their book, then discovered that the company owned the ISBN, controlled the listing, took a share of every sale or would not hand over the cover files. Others tried to do everything themselves and ended up with a book that looked unfinished next to the competition.
We started The Author Publishing to offer a clearer alternative. You pay a fixed, itemised price for the services you choose. Nothing is hidden in the contract, nothing is taken from your sales, and every file we create for you is yours to keep.
How we work
- One project manager. You have a single point of contact who knows your book and your schedule.
- Specialists for each stage. Writers, editors, designers and publishing experts are matched to your genre.
- Approvals at every step. You see and approve drafts, edits, covers, interiors and listings before they go live.
- Your accounts, not ours. We work through account invites and team access, and never ask for your passwords.
- Plain language. We explain what each decision means for your book, so you can choose with confidence.
What we believe
A good book deserves good editing. Readers notice when a manuscript has not been edited, and reviews reflect it. That is why editing is part of every full publishing package we offer.
Covers sell books. A cover has to work at full size on a shelf and as a small thumbnail on a phone screen, and it has to tell readers which genre they are looking at in under a second.
Publishing is the start, not the finish. A book needs a clear description, the right categories and keywords, and a launch plan. We build these in from the beginning rather than treating them as extras.
Who we work with
We work with first-time novelists, business owners writing a book to share their expertise, retirees recording their life stories, faith leaders, doctors, coaches, children’s authors and illustrators, and experienced indie authors who want to publish more often. We work with authors around the world, entirely online.
Talk to us
If you are thinking about writing or publishing a book, we would be glad to hear about it. A first conversation is free and comes with no obligation. You will leave with a clearer idea of what your book needs, whether or not you choose to work with us.
