Barnes & Noble Press is the self-publishing platform of the Barnes & Noble bookstore group, where authors can publish eBooks for Nook readers and print books sold through BN.com. Our Barnes & Noble Press publishing services set up your account, prepare your files, choose your pricing and publish your book, all in an account that stays in your name.
B&N Press suits authors who want their book in front of Barnes & Noble’s own customers. It also has rules that have tightened recently, including a minimum print price and a limit on titles per account, so a careful setup matters. This service is part of our book distribution services and works alongside Amazon publishing for a wider release.

What is Barnes & Noble Press?
Barnes & Noble Press is a self-publishing service that lets authors publish eBooks and print books and sell them through Barnes & Noble’s online store and, for eBooks, to readers on Nook devices and apps. You keep your rights and set your own prices within the platform’s rules. It is one of the few retail-owned self-publishing platforms, which makes it a natural second channel after Amazon for many authors.
What are the current rules authors should know?
Platform rules change, and B&N Press updated several policies in 2026. At the time of writing, print books must carry a minimum retail price of 14.99 dollars, one account is limited to 100 titles and content must be original. A print title priced below the minimum can be removed from sale, so pricing needs care. We confirm the current rules on the day we set up your book, because they can change again.
Should I publish on B&N Press directly or through an aggregator?
Publishing directly gives you full control of the account, pricing and reports, and it avoids an aggregator’s share. An aggregator such as Draft2Digital can place your eBook with Barnes & Noble alongside other stores from one upload, which saves time. Many authors use B&N Press directly for print and an aggregator for eBooks. We explain the trade-offs and help you pick a combination that suits your book and your time.
How do I price a book on B&N Press?
Print pricing starts from the minimum price, then has to cover printing cost and leave you a royalty. EBook pricing is more flexible but affects your royalty rate, as it does in other stores. We compare your price across Amazon, B&N Press and other channels so readers see sensible prices everywhere and you do not create conflicts between stores. We also set up a simple price plan for promotions.
What file formats does B&N Press need?
For eBooks, a clean EPUB with a working table of contents and a cover image. For print, a PDF interior at the right trim size and a cover file, with fonts embedded and bleed set correctly. A file that passes on KDP can still fail on B&N Press, because the two platforms use different templates and trim lists. We build and check files for the platform you choose and fix any validation errors before you submit.
How long does it take and what does it cost?
Setup takes a few days once your files are final, and the platform’s review adds more time. We do not publish a price list. Every project receives a free quote with a fixed price in writing before work starts. B&N Press has historically let authors upload for free, and print costs are deducted from your royalty.
Questions about barnes & noble press consultancy
Can I publish on B&N Press and KDP together?
Yes, unless your eBook is enrolled in KDP Select, which requires eBook exclusivity on Amazon. Print editions are not affected.
Will my book be on Barnes & Noble store shelves?
B&N Press makes your book available online. Shelf placement is the store’s decision and is not guaranteed, so we never promise it.
Do I keep my rights?
Yes. You keep your rights, and the platform receives permission to sell your book under its terms.
Do I need an ISBN?
Rules differ for eBook and print. We check the current requirements and help you use your own ISBN or the platform’s option.
Can I set my print price below the minimum?
No. B&N Press currently requires a minimum retail price for print, and titles priced below it can be removed from sale.
How many titles can I publish?
A single account is currently limited to 100 titles, and a book in both print and digital counts as one title.
Can I move an existing book to B&N Press?
Yes. We prepare the files and details and make sure your prices and editions match across stores.
Does B&N Press have promotions?
It offers promotional tools from time to time. We check what is available when your book is ready.
